Coronavirus Update 18/03

The government’s advice to schools is still that we should remain open. This may well change but for now there is no reason why we, at Lincoln UTC, shouldn’t be open and continue to support students in all year groups.

We have a (relatively small) number of students who have chosen to self-isolate, either because they have a medical condition which makes them more vulnerable or because there are family members who are worried due to the fact that they are particularly ‘at risk’.

Currently, we only have one member of the teaching staff who is self-isolating and we are able to cover these lessons. I believe that we are much less affected by staff absence than most schools.

There are no cases of Coronavirus amongst the students or the staff.

We do not anticipate staffing problems, in the foreseeable future, which would require us to close but we are aware that the government’s stance on school closures is likely to change. We will follow the medical and governmental advice as and when it changes.

Staff here have been working with students in preparation for the scenario where school closure is required. If we are required to close to students we expect to remain open for staff so that teachers can maintain online support for students. We will send more details of how this will work to all parents, carers and students by the end of this week.

We hope that you are all well and continue to be well over the coming weeks (or months) as the situation develops.

Spirits remain high here at Lincoln UTC.

Kind regards, on behalf of all the staff

John Morrison
